COMPANY BACKGROUND

Founded by Daniel Reeves in May 2018, Juniper Strategic Advisory was born out of the unmet need for a two-sided approach to project advocacy. Rather than a “win or lose” mentality, Juniper focuses on bringing opposing viewpoints as closely together as possible in the interest of creative problem solving, compromise, and expanding the pie to benefit as many stakeholders as possible. Daniel, who comes from a real estate background, cut his teeth in public policy as the Senior Vice President for Economic Development and Public Policy for the Downtown San Diego Partnership, an influential economic development organization. It was here that Daniel recognized the need for a new approach in community and public advocacy and ventured out to found the firm.

Daniel Reeves

President & CEO

In 2018, after more than 10 years working in real estate, planning, and public affairs, Daniel Reeves formed an independent community and government affairs consulting firm, Juniper Strategic Advisory. As the President and CEO, Daniel’s focus is, first and foremost, on his clients and on ensuring that the needs of every project are met and expectations are exceeded. He also focuses on business development and operations, and spends any time he has left on volunteering on the boards of organizations he believes in.

Prior to forming Juniper Strategic Advisory, Daniel was the Senior Vice President for Economic Development & Public Policy at the Downtown San Diego Partnership, an influential economic development organization. In this position, he oversaw the Partnership’s extensive public policy efforts, and through various economic development programs, ensured that Downtown offers companies the ability to be successful by advancing programs that resolve challenges such as parking and mobility, and the attraction and retention of talent. It was critical that he develop relationships with local government and build strategic partnerships with companies to foster economic progress Downtown.

Further, Daniel led the Partnership’s efforts to support and realize Downtown’s large civic projects, supported the development community by navigating the entitlement and regulatory processes, and developed policy positions for the organization. He also focused on ensuring federal, state, and local decisions impacting Downtown reflected the needs and wants of the Downtown community.

Daniel serves as a mayoral appointee on the City of San Diego Mobility Board, serves on the Downtown Parking Management Group, sits on the boards of Lambda Alpha International – San Diego Chapter, the Downtown San Diego Partnership, and San Diego Young Leaders, and is an active, Full Member of the Urban Land Institute, serving on their Sponsorships Committee.

Prior to joining the Partnership, Daniel worked as a project manager at Civic San Diego specializing in alternative financing mechanisms and the development of tools that create opportunities for economic revitalization. With the dissolution of Redevelopment and the loss of Tax Increment Financing as a tool to stimulate economic development, Daniel focused his attention on alternative tools by setting up and leading Civic San Diego’s New Markets Tax Credit program and working on the development of various investment funds aimed at incentivizing development in San Diego’s most underserved communities.

In his work at Civic San Diego, he developed a superior understanding of the Downtown Community Plan, Planned District Ordinances, and the project entitlement process.

Daniel graduated from business school at the University of San Diego in 2012 where he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and a Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) degree.
